Meet the maker

The Left Field story

Scotland's first commercial kombucha brewery, set up in 2016 by husband and wife Geraint and Jo. Geraint is a former beer brewer, and it shows: these pour and drink like a proper craft beer.

They were also the first UK brewer to put kombucha on tap alongside craft beer in independent bars, and you'll find it served in Michelin-starred restaurants.

How they brew

Only three ingredients: ethically sourced loose-leaf tea, sugar and water, plus their own house culture. No fruit, juices or flavourings, so each numbered brew tastes of its tea: Yunnan black, Sencha green, Tung Ting oolong and Darjeeling second flush. Their tea comes from Ethical Tea Partnership members.

Serving tip: Pair No.4 Darjeeling with breakfast or cheese, and No.1 Yunnan Black with a roast or a pie.

Start here

No fruit, no flavourings, just single-origin tea, so each numbered brew tastes of its tea. No.2 Sencha Green is crisp and citrusy, and the easiest way in.

No.1 Yunnan Black is bold and brooding, No.3 Oolong is floral with a hint of peach, and No.4 Darjeeling is fruity and rich, like a fine wine.
