Kev's take

This is a top tier kombucha that tells me we're now moving into the era of world class kombucha making in the UK. The established brands better watch out because this is next level right here.

About this kombucha

Peterston Tea Kombucha Raspberry & Fig Leaf

"Summer pudding went to finishing school."

This one goes back to the farm's roots. Their own raspberries, a short infusion of fig leaf and their loose leaf black tea, with a vanilla pod in there too.

Fruity, but grown-up fruity. Not a fizzy pop in sight.

Why you'll love it

Farm raspberries, a soft, almost coconutty whisper of fig leaf and a hint of vanilla. It's the drink equivalent of a really good dessert at a restaurant you can't quite afford. Pour it into a coupe glass and suddenly it's an occasion, even if the occasion is Tuesday.

Kev's verdict: "This is the one I pour for people who tell me they don't like kombucha. Nobody's said it twice. Proper fruit, proper restraint, and a finish that makes you want to drive to Wales and shake the farmer's hand."

Grown, brewed and bottled in Wales

Peterston Tea grow their own organic tea in the Vale of Glamorgan, on one of the first commercial tea farms in the UK. The tea and the raspberries in this bottle come from that farm. Small batch, raw and unpasteurised, with the live cultures left in.

Size: 330ml bottle
Ingredients: Filtered water, organic kombucha culture, organic raw cane sugar, organic raspberries, organic single estate black tea, organic fig leaf, vanilla pod
Storage: Raw and unpasteurised, so keep it in the fridge. Small floating bits of SCOBY are natural, safe to drink and a sign of a healthy brew.

Mix it into any box of 6, 12 or 24 and save up to 15%.

Want the science? Here's what the research actually says about fermented drinks, minus the hype.

Raw and alive

Raw means unpasteurised. The bacteria and yeasts from fermentation are still in there, which is why it needs to stay cold.

Like all kombucha, it has a trace of alcohol from fermentation, always under 0.5% ABV, and a little caffeine from the tea it's brewed with.

Storage: keep it cold

Fridge it from the moment it lands to the moment you drink it. Warm raw kombucha gets lively, so open it slowly over the sink if it's been out. Once open, keep it in the fridge and finish it within a few days.
